Being a professional photographer has always been an art more than a science but learning to deal with the equipment was sometimes at least half the job. Then there was the sensitivity of the equipment especially the film. Film could not get wet, it could not get exposed to light, it could not get too old, it had to be handled just right or you may never get the images off of it ever. Film in and of itself was the bane of the professional photographer's existence for a long time. But then there was the other side of the job which created this huge gap between a professional photographer and an amateur. People did not mind paying a professional photographer a lot of money to shoot their wedding because they knew a professional would get the shots done right while an amateur may not always get the right shot. Thanks to professional digital photography the photographer's life has been made a little easier but, in some ways, their life has been complicated. Those that practice professional digital photography are out there trying to get the perfect picture now and they are also competing with the amateurs who think they can do professional digital photography because digital technology these days can make anyone look like a pro.

In the world of professional digital photography film has been replaced by digital images and many of the practitioners of professional digital photography are rejoicing. The cards that store the images are the size of a postage stamp and they are much more rugged than film ever was. To add to that those small digital image cards can hold hundreds of images and where a professional photographer in the old days had to buy rolls of film to do their job they can now trade up to professional digital photography and buy on inexpensive digital image card that can last them for many jobs and never go bad on them. The advances of image storage with professional digital photography are allowing photographers to capture images they never could before and the results are impressive.

On the flip side digital photography has created a whole new generation of people who now believe that a tripod and someone that can frame a picture right is all you need for professional looking images and the sad thing is that they may be right. It is true that to capture truly perfect images you need training in professional digital photography, there is still that group of people that will take their chances and save their money by letting Uncle Morty do the wedding pictures and more often than not the results are just fine.

Digital information is a blessing and curse to most professionals. Those that practice professional digital photography have to deal with the amateurs stealing the wedding jobs just like musicians have problems with easily pirated digital music.
